Well, hello there.

My name is Chris, and welcome to my personal blog. My professional IT career began after I obtained a BSc in Information Technology from Manchester Metropolitan University. I’ve been an IT professional for over 14 years, with just over half of this time spent as a Systems Engineer. One of the many amazing aspects of my IT career has been the opportunity to work for companies that constantly facilitate experimentation with new technology. Among the many changes in technology, witnessing the industry’s transition from long-lived, multi-purpose on-premise virtual machines (pets) to single-purpose ephemeral containers (cattle) has been particularly fascinating.

Working with technology is sometimes like solving a jigsaw puzzle, where various bits and pieces work towards a common goal. However, unlike rigid puzzle pieces, these components are always changing shape, which keeps the work forever fascinating to me. Another passion of mine is sharing information, and one of the ways I achieve this is through this site. I hope you enjoy the content.

Blogging

If you’re interested in reading more from me, I wrote an article a while back on how at Auto Trader , my team and I created a process to facilitate non-disruptive in-place Kubernetes cluster upgrades over several production environments.

Over on howinteresting.co.uk however, is where I talk about personal projects, and bits and pieces I find interesting. I love to experiment and learn new things in my spare time as well as at work, and writing about it too. I started this blog as a bit of fun, and to give a little back to the tech community from whom I’ve learned lots from over the years. It’s also a great way to really get into the guts of things and sharpen your knowledge of methods, technologies and techniques.
